Satisfying. Painting this series. I have some landscapes from my trip that I’d like to take further. But these renderings of produce from Mala’ai feel complete.

A friend, looking at this work, wondered “I’m trying to imagine what you are thinking while painting”.

What I love about these botantical efforts is that I don’t think. At least not about politics or myself. I look at the thing I’m painting . On a good day it’s all about the subject. What color are you? What is it about you that attracted me? What is the light doing to shape you? And on and on.

All the above botanicals were painted from life. I’ll take a photo of the set-up for future reference. But I vastly prefer working from life, if given the choice.
