Eyeballs on the Iris

assortment of my sketches, planning composition and paint colors.

Sort of Spring in Minnesota. Most of the snow is melted. I couldn’t wait any longer for actual bulbs to bloom outside. Off to Bachman’s Flowers store. Although, now that I think about it, I originally wanted to paint the irises for an upcoming Art Show. But what I painted didn’t seem to go with the works I was submitting.

This is where I landed. The pink plate was a surprise addition. Someone set it down on the table. I loved it. I painted it into the picture.

I started over on a second attempt. I wanted to try doing the stems…less heavy handed, more lively. I’ll go in and do that, but what is happening with all the swirls? Doesn’t this feel a bit swirly? Watercolor…it does it’s own thing. I’ll have to forge ahead and see what happens.
